Knowledge of the subsurface is needed to be able to build a dike. Geotechnical data such as borings and cone penetration tests (CPT) are used to create three dimensional analytical subsurface models. These models can give important and complete understanding in subsurface conditions and the interaction between manmade structures and the subsurface.
