By using helicopters, a laser scanner and a digital photo and video camera an accurate 3D scan of a levee can be made, with an accuracy of just over an inch. This 3D scan can be used for monitoring the levees. The levees can be viewed from every angle and deformations are easily spotted by combining the different data sets. The scans can alos be used for designing levee elevations.
