The scheme will alleviate flooding in Elgin by recreating the flood plain and constructing flood defences that are set back from the river banks and designed to become an integral part of the landscape. This project is one of the largest UK flood alleviation projects.

The scheme is being undertaken by Moray Flood Alleviation which comprises The Moray Council, Royal Haskoning and Morrison Construction. Investigation and option appraisal stages have been completed and the scheme is entering the outline design and optimisation stages.

The works include channel improvements to the River Lossie and Tyock Burn and will provide many kilometres of walls and embankments to act as flood defences. There is a requirement to replace or alter five road bridges and two footbridges. There are also many services and utilities that require attention, protection or diversion and a number of potentially contaminated sites that require remediation as part of the scheme.

The Moray Council, Royal Haskoning, Morrison Construction
